Human navigation, perception and interpretation of the surrounding visual scene require interaction between the visual system, the motor system and the parts of the brain serving attention, perception and cognition. Hence, damage to the visual brain can result in impaired visual function including perceptual and cognitive dysfunction. Children with developmental disabilities present with wide range of eye problems - correctable, partially correctable treated by Ophthalmologists and non-correctable problems treated by visual rehabilitation specialist. They play an important role in assessing the extent of functional visual impairment how to make the best use of remaining vision which is often neglected. Aim - The aim of the study is to have a standardized format for all vision professionals - Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Vision Rehabilitation Professionals with guidelines to consolidate and have concrete ideas on management of vision problems which can be done by carrying out eye examination of 150 children with developmental disability in 3 months a Pilot study and further evaluate feedback and fine tune it. Comprehensive evaluation, better data availability will help us deliver better service to these children. This is a one-timeevaluation but may need several sessions for completion. Clinical evaluation by Ophthalmologists, Vision assessment by Optometrist and CVI questionnaire by VI Professionals are called upon to examine children of all age group with disability from time to time which will eventually bridge the gap. We also aim to create awareness among all other specialists as not all Children with Developmental Disabilities visit Ophthalmologist by using zoom platform. Questionnaires prepared in proforma can be used by teachers, special educators, parents as guidelines to understand functional use of vision. Finally, a standardized protocol on assessment and management strategies of vision problems in these children means having uniform practice guidelines in our country, provide timely guidance to parents, family members and professionals on further management based on assessment report and lastly recommend policy guidelines in the management of patients.
